Back in January of 2015, The New York Times ran a piece titled “The 36 Questions That Lead To Love”. In it, they reference Mandy Len Catron’s Modern Love essay, “To Fall in Love With Anyone, Do This”, which discusses a study by psychologist Arthur Aron; the goal of the study was to find out if falling in love could be sped up. How? As you’ve likely ascertained, BY ASKING 36 INVASIVE PERSONAL QUESTIONS TO YOUR PARTNER IN RAPID SUCCESSION, DUH!
The questions (which went totally viral) range from “What is your most treasured memory?” to “Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?”.
Sure, the list is a pretty good start…but is it enough?
We think not.
HENCE we enlisted the help of some of our favorite humans of all time to create 36 MORE questions that will help you determine whether or not to put a ring (and/or keep a ring) on it. And I mean, we went IN. We’ve got everyone from Antoni Porowski to Kim Petras to Mari Andrew weighing in on what they deem VERY important to know about someone before getting serious. (See also: you will be in GREAT hands. And to follow the adventures of any/all participants, just click on each photo to be transported to socials.)
And we invite (read: dare) you to ask the full list to your partner on this unholiest of days (Valentine’s Day)! While we are rooting for you to find out you are one half of an unstoppable power couple, wouldn’t it be kind of amazing to realize you irreconcilably disagree on the practice of plane clapping, string cheese consumption (are you a puller or a biter) and other hotly contested issues?
(We just hope both teams have fun.)
GODSPEED.
