When I started out 2014, one of my goals was to be able to perform at SXSW this year. My band Young Old Man (Neema Sadeghi, Runson Willis & I) had performed at Harvard’s LGBT Conference and we wanted to keep making music together and performing. They had been living with me in Allston for the month of February – we would practice in the evenings, they came to class with me, they even helped me celebrate my birthday at home. A month later, we decided to meet up in Austin – they drove from DC and I flew down from Boston as soon as class was over. We played at Darwin on the main 6th Street strip and had a strong show. We continued onward through the desert along route 10 to play some shows we had lined up in LA over the next few days. Those boys became brothers to me.
