The Arrillaga Family Speaker Fund, in conjunction with the Morris Speaker Endowment, brings to campus speakers who are selected by students and whom students believe will inspire them. The Morris and Arrillaga families envisioned that students would have the opportunity to learn from insightful and courageous speakers all over the world who would impart new ideas and inspire experiences in the next generation of leaders.
This year, the Arrillaga Speaker was Madame Gandhi (Kiran Gandhi), an award-winning artist and activist known for her uplifting, percussive electronic music and positive message about gender liberation and personal power. She shared the story of her path to music and spoke to the power of finding what lights you up and creates a spark within yourself.
As an alum of an all-girls school, she was able to speak to the strength of an all-girls education and the powerful friendships students build while at school, some lasting far beyond graduation.
After speaking, she answered questions that students had, performed some of her songs, shared lunch with students around the Circle, and offered feedback and encouragement to students’ spoken-word poetry.
Thank you, Madame Gandhi, for sharing your spark with Castilleja!
