On Thursday I DJ’ed the Levi’s x Girlgaze International Womxn’s Month Celebration at House of Strauss in West Hollywood. At the event, Amanda De Cadenet and her team at Girlgaze launched 4 female-directed films about women who are shaping their world. One was about Girls Rock Camp LA and my drummer friend Mona Tavakoli. Then the girls performed and I was moved to tears. So beautiful. “I agree to do my best! I agree to rock! I agree to take up space!” Amanda spoke about how there are only 4% of women behind the camera for major films, and how that shapes how we are represented in film. This must change if we are to challenge modern day representations of women. We must be in control of telling our own stories. The future is female. Onward!
