This year I have been finding ways of always including a panel or workshop discussion locally before my talks, which has been part of my journey to bring my ability to speak closer to my ability to perform. Sometimes things appropriate for a panel are too cerebral for a live show at midnight, and things that can only be said through art aren’t appropriate for a sober 4pm discussion. When I was at Pitchfork in Chicago, the Chicago Tribune interviewed some people in a game of “this or that.” They asked me, “woke or lit?” I said both.
