When I traveled to India in December 2011, I went to Chandigarh, in the northern Punjab region of India. I visited a local dhol drum workshop several times and worked with several of the local drummakers there to create a drum for me to take back to the US. It was a beautiful, smaller, deep brown drum that is now sitting at my place in LA. The day I got the dhol, I learned of a Bhangra show that was taking place at a public square down the street, and so I checked it out. There, I discovered India’s youngest female dholi.
